Overdose Prevention Trainings at Boston Firehouses
Posted On: Jul 24, 2016
Dear Community Partners,

Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph E. Finn, and Mayor’s Office of Recovery Services Director Jennifer Tracey invite you to community overdose prevention trainings hosted in neighborhood Boston firehouses. Please see a flyer attached.

The goal of these trainings is to help the community better understand the scope of Boston’s opioid epidemic, recognize the signs & symptoms of an opioid overdose, and train participants on how to use the life-saving overdose reversal drug naloxone (Narcan). The Boston Fire Department and Office of Recovery Services are excited to engage in this partnership to further expand the City of Boston’s Fighting Addiction in the Hub (FAITH) initiative, which aims to address substance use and addiction in Boston through active collaboration between public health and first responder professionals.

The public is encouraged to attend all trainings and to ask questions. Community providers and stakeholders will also be present to provide additional information, resources, and support. If your agency is interested in potentially having a designated resource space at a training event, please contact Brendan Little at blittle@bphc.org<mailto:blittle@bphc.org>.

Trainings will be held every Thursday this summer, and will continue into the fall with locations to be announced at a later date. Summer trainings will begin on July 28th from 6:00-7:00pm in South Boston, 272 D St (Engine 39 Firehouse).
